We are saved by grace..true that! And grace sets us free…true that too, Praise Jesus! But Paul says we aren’t to walk in disobedience so that grace may abound. We are to die to sin. Did you know that disobedience has its own fruit?
One of the fruits that disobedience produces in our lives has to do with our hearing. Disobedience puts a shield over our ears. Disobedience actually produces earplugs! I have a more difficult time hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit when I’m walking in disobedience. And I NEED to hear HIS voice, so that I can make decisions that will keep me on the path that God has for my life. He knows the plan for my life and will let me know the steps, if I walk in obedience to Him.
Disobedience causes our own voice to be louder than the voice of the Holy Spirit and I do not want that! When I hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, it is a voice of truth and love based on God’s word and flowing with a richness that produces enthusiasm and energy to live this life He has gifted me with. Walking in obedience makes me more alert to His voice and builds an intensity in my life for more and more obedience.
Another fruit that disobedience produces has to do with our sight. When We’re disobedient our eyes are shielded from the beauty of His creation. Disobedience produces blindness; I have a difficult time seeing the majesty of the things He has put before me. I have His creation that screams of His love for me, and I have the people, He has placed in my life, who help me visualize His love and His character, for we are made in His image. I want to have a clear conscience so that my vision is clear as to what is around me.
Disobedience turns our focus inward and these gifts He has given us (His creation and people) become blurred and unimportant. Walking in obedience turns my focus back onto Jesus and His people. I want to walk in obedience. The brilliance of life around me is magnified when I’m obedient to the Holy Spirit.
The many other fruit that disobedience produces are heart related…impatience, ingratitude, grouchiness, selfishness, laziness, and just pure ick.
The fruits that disobedience produces are real. They are bitter and tasteless, but they are real. I want the sweet and tasty fruit of obedience. Jesus satisfies my soul with good things! When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word what a glory He sheds on our way!
God asked Cain, “Why is your face so downcast?” It was due to the fruit of disobedience in his life. God told him that if he obeyed, he would be accepted. That means no more pouty face Cain! Just “rule over” the sin and voila! =) Obedience brings peace and joy and freedom. God said so!
We are in tune to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our daily walk when we are obedient to His word. The tasty fruits of obedience are the ones I’m after! Those are the fruits that make my life the abundant life God has promised me.
The fruit of the Spirit are the ones we produce when we are obedient to God’s word. The really cool thing is that it is the Holy Spirit that gives us the desire and power to do what pleases Him. There’s a sort of resting in His strength even as we are pressing on towards the goal. The fruit of the Spirit are ours for the picking as we walk in obedience to Him. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control! These fruits are the truly tasty ones!
How about you? Which fruit do you best identify with your behaviors and results? Do you, like Danelle, long to see and hear God more clearly? What do you think He is telling you to do about it?
