My name is Eva Diaz. I live in Mississippi.
I first discovered Thin Within in 2006 when I went online searching for a way to lose the weight I had gained because of a thyroid condition.
Exploring Yahoo Groups, I found a Christian Support Group for weight loss and one of the members there told me about Thin Within. At the time, Thin Within sponsored forums where participants could ask questions and learn more. I asked questions, learned, and prayed.
One Sunday in 2007, the pastor of my church preached a sermon on sin. He mentioned gluttony and pointed out that the bible says that we should take care of our bodies because they are a temple that God wants us to use to serve Him.
The next day I bought the Thin Within book and started taking an online class since there was no in-person group in Mississippi at the time.
Thin Within has been such a blessing in my life. It has drawn me even closer to the Lord because I realize He can help me with all my problems—even my weight issues.
I don’t like to focus on the physical changes because it tends to get my focus on performance which gets my mind off God. But that said, in spite of thyroid challenges, I have released 19 pounds and maintained that loss for a long while now. I only weigh myself when I go to the doctor because weight is an indicator that my thyroid is out of control.
I now consider releasing weight an extra blessing—not my main focus anymore because my primary aim is to take care of my body so that I can serve the Lord who created me and loves me very much.
Two bible verses have especially ministered to me during my Thin Within journey:
For I know the plans I have for you–plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
~ Jeremiah 29:11
God has a plan for my life and his plan is that I serve Him in whatever way he chooses for me to serve Him. In order to be ready to serve Him I must take care of my body.
Be strong and of good courage.
~ Joshua 1:9
I must be mentally and physically strong against the many ways that the devil tries to tempt me to fall and get away from God.
During my Thin Within journey, God has laid on my heart that I can take all my problems and worries to Him in prayer. Eating when I am worried won’t take my worries away. God will take away my worries. The Lord shows me this every day.
My Thin Within journey has also taught me to be patient and wait on His answers regarding my life. His answers are not always what I want or come to me as soon as I want them but He does what is best for me even though I might not think so at the time.
On this journey, my relationship with the Lord has become stronger! My love for Him has deepened and I get closer to God each day because I have learned to take life moment by moment.
It’s strange for me to think about it now, but when I started Thin Within I thought I was just going to release weight–but I have gained so many more blessings than merely being free of extra weight!
How About You?
Is it time to begin to surrender — or to surrender again — this area of your life to the Lord? Is gluttony having its way with you? There is no condemnation for us in Christ (Romans 8:1; John 3:17), but he has something so much better in mind for each of us than for us to be owned by food!
