Here is a sound file that explains what I hope ALL of us (even those not involved in the bible study) will do! (Email subscribers need to visit the blog site to access the sound file):
[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/98266648″ params=”” width=” 100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]Our goals this week are:
1.) Establish our primary and secondary boundaries.
Mine are:
- Primary Boundary – Eat 0 to 5
- Secondary Boundaries – 1.) Eat only when sitting down (sitting in the car doesn’t count! :-)) 2.) Eat only when my mind and body are relaxed
2.) Establish our plan for renewing our minds.
Mine looks like this and I will send a report to my accountability partner each day about these things as well:
- Renew my mind with my Eating Truth Cards each morning.
- Listen to my Truth Play List at least once during the day.
- Review/Scan or re-read highlights in my cards between 4 and 6pm each day.
You can do this, too.
What is your primary boundary? This one’s easy–If you are a Thin Within participant, you will want to have this one be “To eat 0 to 5” or something like that.
What will your two secondary boundaries be this week? Remember that secondary boundaries support your ability to live within your primary boundary. Any of the Keys to Conscious Eating can work. “To have the TV off when eating,” or something like that can work, too!
What will your plan be to renew your mind? Remember, renewing the mind is something we are doing so we can think differently–specifically, so we can think God’s thoughts about something, in this case, 0 to 5 eating, or our bodies, or food generally…or something like that! I have made my truth cards specifically about eating 0 to 5 since that is my primary boundary. More on that in our online class. We talked about ways of renewing our minds agin the online class for this week. Here is that video:
Barb has a page for Renewing Your Mind Tools. You can get some great ideas there.
Primary boundary: Eat 0 to 5 (hunger to satisfaction.)
Secondary boundaries: Only eat when sitting. Eat slowly and savor each bite.
PLAN: Listen to some of mine and/or Heidi’s sound cloud files daily.
Take time each day for Bible study/review and spend time with God.
Read each day my list I have made about why my boundaries are good. Add to list as needed.
You rock, my friend. WOOT!
Thanks for the “clarification!” This recap is a great motivation this morning (yes, I’ll admit that I was feeling a tad bit overwhelmed). I’m having BIG fun putting together a new Truth playlist on my iPod. Don’t know about others, but I remember spending SO much time when I was “younger” listening to music (WHERE did we find all that free time?!?) and we listened to entire albums too. There is so much great music today that shares God’s word and His Truth. One of my new favorites is “Remind Me Who I Am” by Jason Gray. (check it out!)
So glad that the clarification helped! Yikes! I will have to be careful. It gets easier in the future. Establishing the foundation is the tricky part. SO glad you are enjoying the playlist idea! I love Remind Me Who I Am by Jason Gray. In fact, Jason has several songs that could be on that playlist.
Primary boundry’s: Eat only when I have true physical hunger, 0-5 and stop at comfortable. Pray before each meal and thank God for my food and ask for the Holy Spirit to give me self controle.
Secondary: Eat relaxed at the table and eat slowly. Enjoy each bite. Sip water in between bites to wash palate. Enjoy the moment with my husband while we are eating at the table.
Plan: Spend an hour in the morning with God in prayer and the word of God. Meditate on His truth.
Listen to Heidi sound cloud, read blog and respond.
Looks great, Jamie.
Jamie, This is great. Sent you an email. 🙂
I will be thinking on this today and praying it out loud in Jesus name. Amen.
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
…12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13Neither yield you your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin: but yield yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace.
Amen!
My primary boundaries:
0 – 5 eating
My secondary boundaries:
Eat and drink the things my body enjoys, remembering 1 Corinthians 6:12
Pay attention to my food while eating
My Renewing of the Mind Goals:
Continue early morning and bedtime devotional reading and prayers
Pray scripture prayers daily
Read my Lies and Truth (God-thoughts) Chart daily and add to it any additional lies which come
to light
Follow Heidi’s blog and do the assignments
Sounds great, Sheila. Look at you go! 😀
Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary
Romans
6:11-15 The strongest motives against sin, and to enforce holiness, are here stated. Being made free from the reign of sin, alive unto God, and having the prospect of eternal life, it becomes believers to be greatly concerned to advance thereto. But, as unholy lusts are not quite rooted out in this life, it must be the care of the Christian to resist their motions, earnestly striving, that, through Divine grace, they may not prevail in this mortal state. Let the thought that this state will soon be at an end, encourage the true Christian, as to the motions of lusts, which so often perplex and distress him. Let us present all our powers to God, as weapons or tools ready for the warfare, and work of righteousness, in his service. There is strength in the covenant of grace for us. Sin shall not have dominion. God’s promises to us are more powerful and effectual for mortifying sin, than our promises to God. Sin may struggle in a real believer, and create him a great deal of trouble, but it shall not have dominion; it may vex him, but it shall not rule over him. Shall any take occasion from this encouraging doctrine to allow themselves in the practice of any sin? Far be such abominable thoughts, so contrary to the perfections of God, and the design of his gospel, so opposed to being under grace. What can be a stronger motive against sin than the love of Christ? Shall we sin against so much goodness, and such love?

This is a lovely rendering of this song. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you Jamie. I started my quiet time with this this morning.
Heidi, where are the sound bytes from you that some are talking about? Is there a list/link some where?
Sound Cloud files … Adriane has a channel there and so do I. Here is my Sound Cloud channel – and if it helps, download these files and stick them on an iPod and make a play list! I know that sounds lame on the one hand, but if it helps…I don’t care if it sounds lame! LOL! My channel is here: https://soundcloud.com/heidi-bylsma and Adriane’s is here: https://soundcloud.com/adriane5sims. I don’t know if anyone else has a Sound Cloud channel. I hope you all make one! 🙂 It would be fun to declare truth and share that with one another!
OH MY GOODNESS! EVERYONE! Have a look at Adriane’s latest video!!! Tell her how awesome she is, precious sweetie! http://youtu.be/tsz5Ce29IhQ
Adriane! Thank you for sharing your you tube video. What a great idea and your ideas of renewing your mind throughout the day are fabulous! I know lots of people (self included) will benefit. How fun to see my awesome partner online :)!
Adrianes video–SO encouraging!!!!! I just watched it and I feel so encouraged. And I just was really encouraged by my accountability partner, so I feel doubly encouraged. Praise God!
I saved both links to the sound files to my favorites on my phone. What treasures of Truth!
I’m plugging away at week 2 not so successfully. I watched Adriane’s video and it was such a help to me. I’m going to write out my list of why I want to stick to my plan like she did. Marvelous idea!!!
Sorry, I’m now working on week 3, but came here to hoping for some encouragement and found it!
Primary boundaries – eating 0-5 to pay attention to true hunger and to continue to pray for God to make me completely aware of what my 0 feels like and what my 5 is. To release anxiety over the 0-5
Secondary- to SLOW down and SIT down I’m always in a rush I’m trying to focus on smaller bites slower bite all while sitting down.
My renewing my mind goals
To continue daily in my thin within book/workbook
To listen to my Christian radio station for words to my ears that fill my heart
Listen to the sound clouds
I am in need of an accountability partner.
Hello to all. This has been a crazy busy week thus far. Someone is on vacation at work which means I am working full time this week instead of part time. :-/ It has been a challenging week eating wise. In a moment of weakness I purchased chocolate to eat in the car alone while driving home from mommas house. Several mistakes made there breaking all primary and secondary boundaries. Halfway thru the box and halfway home I dumped the remaining chocolate out the car window (not the paper). Just a little observe and correct. I just was not prepared (Palm plant into the forehead). I just completed setting Boundaries and renewal of mind plan. Here it is:
Primary Boundary: I will eat only when Hungry (0-5).
Secondary Boundary: I will eat at the table when relaxed. No eating directly out of the bag or jar. (All food on plate or in bowl)
Renewing of the Mind Plan: Start my day with Bible Study and Prayer Review scripture cards when I arrive home during my vulnerable time to replace comfort food with comfort thoughts. (Create this ASAP) Listen to positive uplifting music while in car or during my vulnerable time.
I am registered for Wed class, but will listen to it on Thu. God’s blessing on your day.
Joyce, I can relate to that eating chocolate out of the box experience. It sounds like we need to find ways to relax after work (or for me, after putting my daughter to bed at night). I’m going to ask about this during the class today. I am praying for you! We can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us!
Good morning. I was traveling last week/weekend and it is good to be back!
Here are my boundaries and plan.
Primary boundary – 0-5
Secondary boundaries
Eat more slowly and savor meal (continue with boundary of sit at table)
No alcohol on weeknights, no sweets after dinner unless sitting at the table
While I’m not making this a “boundary” I will plan to pause, look to God, and practice gratitude before eating or drinking. I considered pausing for 5 minutes before eating, but I really think I need to focus more on eating slowly. In the past, if I have too many boundaries to focus on, I don’t do any of them! But, I will be aware of pausing and see if I can incorporate it.
ROM plan
—-Read boundaries, scripture index cards, truths, prayer twice daily at least, do the blog study/journal
—-Read Bible starting with Acts at least 15 minutes/day
(I did a bible study on John during this past school year, so I am going to pick up where I left off – Acts through new test then onto Old Test. I have been planning to do this for a while and it may take me 3 years to read through the whole Bible. But I know that I need to be in the Word daily and read the Bible “cover to cover” to really know the Lord.)
I am also praying this prayer daily. He has impressed on me that my mind (and heart) needs to be on Him and serving His kingdom, not on my body and how it looks (or comparing myself to other women).
Lord, please change my heart so that I desire to glorify You above all else. Please help me to desire to magnify and glorify You in all that I do. I pray that I will seek first Your kingdom and set my mind on things above (You, You, Your), not on earthly things (me, my, her). Help me to guard my heart against the lies of the world, the enemy and my own mind. And I pray that I will see thin differently and my body as You see it.
Carrie, I really like that prayer. Do you have that in your truth cards?
I finished week 2! the things I learned this week are spurring me on to week 3. Thank you so much. One of my take aways this week: “The Greek word for abide used in John 8:31-32 and John 15:4-5 is the same word that’s used for living in a house. The idea is that we don’t just visit the word for 10 minutes a day. Instead, we live in the Word.”
Amen, Senkyoushi!
